My great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord early this morning. She was 91 and lived a great life. Even in her 80s, when Thade was a little boy, he spent at least 2 nights a week with her. They would go to McDonald's to play and chase the train that passed her house several times a day.
Her house was a favorite of mine and my cousins growing up also. We would play out back in the "muddy cake house" and we did exactly that - make muddy cakes. She cut our toast into 4 squares every morning even though we were all big enough to eat it whole. She hid us in the hallway with pillows every time it rained in case a tornado came. Her hallway walls were covered with our artwork. We ate cake for breakfast and eggs for dinner. We stayed up late watching cartoons from the pull out couch in her living room. She was an amazing person who loved us so much.
Nana, we miss you dearly and will see you soon.
